How to Keep Your Porch Pumpkins Looking Beautiful

One of the best things about a professionally designed pumpkin display is that once it’s installed, there isn’t much you need to do! At Blue Cottage Porch, we carefully select and thoroughly clean your pumpkins before they arrive at your home.

Because we work with real, natural pumpkins, no two displays—or pumpkins—will age exactly the same way. While our displays are designed to look beautiful well beyond installation, pumpkins are perishable agricultural products whose lifespan can be affected by weather and other conditions outside our control. For that reason, Blue Cottage Porch guarantees your pumpkins for the first 7 days following installation.

Once your display is complete, a few simple precautions can help keep it looking beautiful throughout the season.

Keep Water Away

Moisture is one of the biggest enemies of fresh pumpkins. If possible, adjust sprinklers so they don’t spray directly onto your display. After heavy rain, allowing pumpkins and the area around them to dry naturally can help discourage premature deterioration.

Avoid intentionally spraying or washing the pumpkins after installation—we’ve already taken care of that for you.

Let Your Display Stay Put

We carefully arrange your pumpkins not only to create a beautiful display, but also to position them securely. Once everything is in place, we recommend leaving the pumpkins where they are.

Repeatedly moving, dropping, or rearranging pumpkins can cause small cracks, bruising or other damage that may shorten their lifespan.

Remember: Pumpkins Are a Natural Product

Every pumpkin is unique. Variations in color, shape, texture, stems and natural markings are part of what makes a real pumpkin display so beautiful.

Pumpkins are also perishable agricultural products. Even with careful selection and preparation, their longevity can be affected by Houston's heat and humidity, rain, moisture, insects, squirrels and other wildlife.

Blue Cottage Porch guarantees our pumpkins for the first 7 days following installation. If a pumpkin deteriorates significantly during that period, contact us and we'll take care of it. After the first week, deterioration or damage caused by natural or environmental conditions is not covered.

Please Don't Carve Your Display—Yet!

If you're planning to turn some of your pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, wait until you're ready to enjoy them carved. An intact pumpkin can last considerably longer than one that has been cut.

Near Halloween, feel free to choose a few favorites from your display for carving—but until then, keeping them intact will help preserve your beautiful porch.

When Pumpkin Season Is Over

And here's the best part: you don't necessarily have to deal with all those pumpkins when the season ends.

If you've selected our removal service, Blue Cottage Porch will return to collect your display. Rather than sending those pumpkins to a landfill, we take them to our friend's farm in Brenham, where they become a seasonal treat for the cows.

So enjoy your porch, take lots of pictures, and let us worry about the pumpkins.
