Pumpkin Treats for Your Favorite Pup 🐾🎃

If you know me, you know how I love the dogs. So naturally, I couldn't let pumpkin season go by without finding a way to include our four-legged family members in the fun!

After the carving is done and the fall decorations are in place, don't toss that extra pumpkin. Plain, cooked pumpkin can be turned into a pretty irresistible homemade dog treat — especially when you add a little peanut butter.

These easy Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Treats use just a handful of ingredients, and I have a feeling your official canine taste testers will approve.

Easy Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Treats

Ingredients

• 1 cup plain pumpkin purée

• ½ cup natural peanut butter

• 2 eggs

• 2½–3 cups whole wheat flour

  
  

Directions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Mix the pumpkin, peanut butter and eggs together in a large bowl until well combined.

3. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a firm, workable dough forms.

4. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about ¼-inch thick.

5. Cut into shapes with your favorite cookie cutter and place on the prepared baking sheet.

6. Bake for approximately 20–25 minutes, or until the treats are firm and lightly browned around the edges.

7. Let them cool completely before letting your official taste tester get involved.

   
   

For an extra-crunchy treat, turn off the oven after baking and leave the treats inside as the oven cools.

A Few Pumpkin Safety Tips

When making treats for your dog, always use plain pumpkin purée — not pumpkin pie filling. Pie filling typically contains added sugar and spices that your dog doesn't need.

And check that peanut butter label! Choose a peanut butter that does not contain xylitol (sometimes listed as birch sugar), an artificial sweetener that is extremely dangerous for dogs.

As with any treat, these are best enjoyed in moderation.
